cancer fund

We’d hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but we must ask for the support of our friends, family, and fans. My cancer situation has sapped the band’s savings, and now we are in dire need of some cash to dig ourselves out of debt and move forward.

I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma July of last year. I got the news while we were at The Trowbridge Village Pump Festival at the end of a short EU tour. At the time, we had to accept the possibility that those would be our last performances ever. I don’t want to get into the horrors of cancer or all the awful / wonderful things we’ve been through; I just want to ask the people who’ve supported us before to support us again..
To be clear, I am “lucky” enough to have qualified for Medicaid here in NY, living well below the poverty line, so we have some help with the medical bills themselves. However, the band spent all our funds on my living expenses for the last 9 months - and let me tell you, we know how to stretch a buck!
The money we raise from donations will go to replacing broken equipment, vehicle and instrument insurance and maintenance, gas, rent, recording fees, and all the things that go into making a five piece band stay afloat in NYC.

Any and all help and donations are greatly appreciated.
AND
It always helps when you buy our music and merchandise from our Merch Store

Thank you for all of your support - monetary and otherwise!

Starting anew.

Things have been quiet in our camp for many months now. Regrettably, because I’ve been receiving chemo therapy treatment and more or less had my left shoulder replaced with a titanium doorknob and some other guy’s bone (I appreciate his donation to science, by the way… thank you, sir), a frustrating position to be in as a drummer. I’ll let the irony wash over me like a steady stream of Def Leppard jokes till I can build my arm back enough to heave the choice weapon in the game of stump - a hammer, preferably red - high above my head and declare, “sweet noise, ground us in your mundane wisdom…”
wow - excuse me.
Just cause O’Death has been quiet, doesn’t mean we can’t go out and have some fun. Bob Pycior is making many appearances in the next two months with Skeletonbreath.  If my sources remain creditable, he is sitting in with The Woes at their NYC shows. We love these guys.  I’d claim them as our soul mates, but that might be confusing to our younger fans. Greg Jamie is also making one more appearance with Blood Warrior at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn next week.
We’ll have more news to come soon. Looking forward to getting back to it!

Vic Chesnutt R.I.P.

one of my favorite musicians since i was about 15 years old has been vic chesnutt.

today driving from my sisters house in new jersey to my wife’s parents’ house in long island, around noon, my wife and i started singing as we sometimes do. we sang whats become one of my favorite vic chesnutt songs off his album “north star deserter” called “glossolalia”. one of the most haunting songs i know. kind of a random song to sing on a car ride. then about 5 hours later i found out that vic passed away today, christmas day.

this man has been a real inspiration to me for many many years, someone ive returned to time and time again– the markings a truly great artist. i recently got at the cut on vinyl, another masterpiece. ive been listening to it again tonight since finding out about his passing. it has a great song that repeats the phrase “o death” in a song called “flirted with you all my life” you have to hear it.

anyways here is a stripped down version of the song i was singing his earlier today.

Early Christmas

Because we’re going to bring the rock one more time before closing out this year, uh, decade. We’ve been pretty quiet around here. Frankly, I didn’t know how to tell our fans and friends I have cancer, or if I should really, or whatever. Anyway, my prognosis is good, but the treatment sucks, and it’s going to be many months before O’death can embark on a proper tour or record, which hurts us more than it hurts you. Never-the-less, TODAY, we’re bringing it live. 5pm at Brooklyn Bowl for our NYC friends. BE THERE!!!
