sick puppy

It’s true - I am home-bound for another week and will miss the entire Canadian leg of our current tour… Stupid tumor.

:(
However, we are glad to have found an excellent drummer to sit in for me for the next week. Morgan Zwerlein plays with La Troupe Makendal, but we know him back from is days with Boa Constrictor.
It is certainly a great challenge to sit in with a group of musicians who’ve been playing together for years but Morgan is the man for the job, and I wish him luck and hope he has a good time.. Being me for a week. Just kidding - hope everyone makes him feel right at home.

*There’s a correction to the last entry - Youtube seems not to have been able to handle the Adventure Violence video, so I replaced it with the Vimeo version. Now, check it out and see that John did a good job.
See you later,
David

Sorry Athens

We love the Union in Athens, OH, and deeply regretted canceling our show there last Friday. We promise to make it up to you the next time we are anywhere near.. I’ve got a bit of a medical emergency that is taking me off this tour for the next few days at least, but fear not, O’death will not be canceling any more shows on this tour. We found an old friend to sit in while I get some tests done on the black mass in my shoulder.
If you or anyone you know is an expert at thwarting the efforts of dark magic, please reach out to us, as I may need your help in casting a curse from my limb…
Seriously.
In the case that I loose my arm and abandon drums, I must reassert my self worth in the world of music:
here’s a song I sing on with my other band, Adventure Violence

Adventure Violence - Rye from John Connell on Vimeo.

John Connell did a great job editing this video.
And unfortunately, I’ll be back in NYC tomorrow to tell him personally.
Wish us luck - we may need it.
Thanks to our awesome crowd at the Empty Bottle this past Saturday. We had a blast!

Riverbottom Nightmare Band

Preparing to leave town.. Right now.
Looking forward to driving across the beautiful north country and meeting with Les Claypool’s crew in Boise early next week, but first - we take Athens, OH and Chicago this weekend!
I just hope my arm doesn’t fall off.. Awaiting some news from my doctor, and hoping it’s not bad news…
In the meantime, check out the Riverbottom Nightmare Band.

Some people don’t understand why we aren’t into fashion but the truth is - we just want to be dirty.. Like the Riverbottom Nightmare Band.
Till next time,
DRB

Northside

It was a great weekend of music with Brooklyn’s Northside Festival. We did our thing yesterday on a rainy afternoon. Thanks to all who skipped brunch to come party with us!
But frankly, I’m more interested the shows I got to see!
Tonight I had the pleasure of hearing Lapdog of Satan, The Coathangers, and Ponytail

But last night takes the cake - I saw Bill Callahan (not as part of the festival - that show was tonight), and his set was truly beautiful.  This performer has become a master of his art and will one day be regarded as such in the ranks of Leonard Cohen and Neil Young.  Well, that’s just my opinion, but whatever - from the couple songs I’ve heard from his new record he’s really at a peak right now.

I have to say, this festival was right on point in terms of the talent, and it was great being able to ride bikes from one show to another and barely even miss a song of the acts I was trying to catch.  Might I add - I was quite surprised the shows I saw weren’t packed!  A measly $45 for weekend passes - that’s recession prices!  Shame on you, Brooklyn!  Now The Coathangers have to return to Atlanta believing that maybe New York doesn’t really know how to party.  Well, I’m not going to let that happen.  When we see The Coathangers at Sled Island this summer, I’ll be sure to play this song for them so they know that we know that Georgie Fame knows how to party…

1982

I hope you’ll join me in congratulating our bass man, Newman, on surviving another year. Most people who know him well never thought he’d make it this far.
There were other great things besides every member of O’death created in 1982, such as this record by Iron Maiden:

Iron Maiden are among Newman’s favorite bands and The Number Of The Beast is one of their most famous records, so in honor of our friend Noodles the Ruthless:

Happy Birthday, Dickhead.
